This week's bookmark is inspired by Briar, from the Circle of Magic books.

ree

Briar is one of my favorite characters from the Circle of Magic books (though I think I've said that for each of the four main characters!) He's just fun, and he learns a lot and uses his past knowledge to learn even more. For Briar's we had to go with some vining, and a very simple flower.

The quote was one I found that he said that I thought was funny, because often Briar was the last to know, plus he's the last of the Circle of Magic characters to get a bookmark in this SAL (the last two bookmarks will be from the Tortall universe).

Get the pattern in the files section of our SAL group on FB: https://www.facebook.com/groups/730040497646157 through the end of July 2021, after which it moves to our normal shop.

We're back for another release of the Tamora Pierce Bookmark SAL! This week's bookmark was inspired by the Trickster books. Now I have to admit, I didn't read these ones until I was older, in my early twenties (unlike the Circle books and Lioness, Immortals, and Protector of the Small series which I read in my teens) so they don't hold the same adoration from me that the other books do. That being said they're still good books, I really love the character development of Aly, and that the books touch on some darker topics (briefly) than a lot of the older books, showing how Tamora's writing style is/was still developing along with the Young Adult genre in general.

I really love the crows, and I love that they brought back the Darkings (if you can't tell from the bookmark edging!) We ended up going with this quote because I feel it fits reading in general very well - the written word can be powerful, in the right places.

This one is pretty simple to stitch up, only a couple of colors, and we hope you enjoy it!

Find it (and the rest of the Tamora Pierce Bookmark SAL) for free through the end of July 2021 in our SAL Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/730040497646157 after July 2021 it'll be moved to our shop.

It's hard to believe this is the last release! Before I go into the insights into the Y I want to say thank you to all the amazing folks who made this one so much fun! We have loved doing this SAL with all of you and seeing everyone's work, those who personalized and those who stuck to the pattern. We know quite a few of you still have a ways to go and we hope you'll keep posting and sharing your progress! This was our first SAL and we appreciate everyone's patience and suggestions while we were getting it up and running!

We are ending on Phantom of the Opera. I will admit this one is my favorite, just because of the monkey. Of course we had to have the mask and the rose, but the little song with the wind up monkey has always stuck with me since I first saw Phantom. It was fun to draw it as well. I pulled up the picture of it and Cyn told me right away there was no way I could get it small enough with the amount of detail I wanted, but here it is.

I'm sure the lyrics are no surprise, I saw a couple guesses of them on the Facebook page already. The color was likewise pretty simple to pick.

It is bittersweet writing up this last blog post. I hope y'all will join us for future SALs!

Remember to get on Facebook and upload a picture of your finished project in our Broadway SAL Finished Album or if you're not on Facebook go ahead and email it to us at taylorandcromwell@gmail.com by June 9th to be entered to win a Broadway themed surprise box. Winner will be notified via Facebook messenger/email. It doesn't matter if your pattern was altered or is the original design, you can still enter! If you get it done after the date please feel free to still upload your picture, we love to see finishes!
